Quesrtion and Answers

Following is the collection of Questions/Answers asked by the audience, attending various religious meetings organized by Kalavati Aai. With her appropriate answers, Aai shows us how to apply Hindu Philosophy to our everyday life.

Q1. I am going through a bad phase in my life. What should I do to improve the situation?
A1. Happiness after unhappiness and unhappiness after happiness, both follow a man, all his life. They are the results of your good and bad deeds in your earlier lives. There is no escaping them. But, if you don't want them affect you, you should follow your guru's teachings and keep chanting God's name.

Q2. My dog died recently. Since then I am feeling very depressed.
A2. You must be having flies or roaches in your house. You must have seen them die. Did you cry then? No? Why not? If you did not cry for the death of a roach, why cry for your dog? You cried for the dog, because you thought the dog belonged to you. Everything you see around you is temporary and destructible. Expecting immortality and permanence from objects and people around you, you give them all your love. Since everything is temporary, their loss makes you sad and unhappy. So, to avoid sadness in your life, you should love God, who is permanent and immortal. By doing this, you will never be unhappy again.

Q3. I have been married for the last 25 years. But, even today, me and my wife do not get along. We are always fighting.
A3. Fights are a part of marriage and in turn, life. In fact, fights, struggle, stress is life. Fights are a result of interaction between bad characters within all of us. Once we lose our bad characters, only happiness will remain. So, where there is happiness, there are no fight and where there are fights, there is no happiness. You could live with your wife for 25 years because, sometimes there were fights and sometimes happiness.

Q4. My wife died 2 years ago and since then I have lost all interest in life. I cannot concentrate on anything.
A4. Your wife, your children, your pets and you, you all came together because of your debts. Debts you owe each other. When debts are paid of, you get separated. If someone worked for you and you did not pay him one way or another, you owe him. In this world of God's rule, you will have to pay him sometime, somewhere. If not in this birth, then in your next birth. This debt could be of knowledge, money, work, anything. You have to repay. All your relations are based on your debts. But, you make the mistake of thinking these relations to be permanent, and then, you feel lonely and sad when confronted with separation. Therefore, you should always keep your guru's preaching in mind and live your life accordingly.

Q5. I am tired of my present life. I would like to spend my remaining life with you, doing God's work.
A5. If you think walking on this spiritual path is easier than leading a normal life, you are mistaken. This path is very difficult. In your normal life, the materialistic world around you, keeps your mind occupied and entertained. You do not have to do anything specific to achieve that. But, to lead a spiritual life, is to take your mind away from this physical, materialistic world. This is not possible without total detachment.

An ant will always be attracted towards sugar. Similarly, your mind, by its very nature, that has been evolved over centuries, will be attracted towards this materialistic world. To take your mind away from this is very difficult. Only after man has experienced all the pleasures available in this world, does he realize that there is no happiness in any one of them. And then and only then will he move towards spiritual life. So your normal life is the 1st act while, the spiritual life is the last act. If you do a good job with your 1st act, you will find the last act very easy.

Q6. I have everything in my life but still, I am not at peace.
A6. In your sleep, you have nothing in front of you, and yet, you are happy and peaceful. But, during the day, you have so many things around you, and yet, your mind is troubled. Why is that? Just think about it. When you are awake, you are aware of the world around you. While you are sleeping, you are unaware of this world. So, logically speaking, you are most happy when you forget the world around you. If you take your Guru's help to decrease your attraction towards this world then you will slowly learn to be at peace.

Q7. I am very rich and can have everything money can buy, but I can never have a child. This has been bothering me so much that my health has started suffering. Please bless me.
A7. From your question, I understand, you are asking for my blessing to fulfill one of your many materialistic desires. You get God's or Guru's blessing only once in a lifetime. To be blessed, means to acquire true knowledge. God and Guru are both very loving and generous. They will bless you. But, are you worth it? Can you take it?

You need a bottle to carry oil and a bag to carry clothes. You cannot take a bottle with yourself and go shopping for clothes. Its important that you have the right container to carry the right object.

So, to take home my blessing, you have to be the right container, ie a body, free of anger, hatred, lust etc. When you become the right container for true knowledge, the ultimate happiness is all yours. And that is a blessing.

Q8. How can I lead a life of detachment?
A8. When you go visiting your friend, for the time you spend there, you treat his family as your own. With his children you become a child, with his parents you behave like an adult. While you are busy being nice to everybody, you never forget the fact that you have to go back in a few days. In fact, you even start thinking of all the stuff you will be taking back with you.

Once you understand the fact, that, life is exactly the same, detachment will come easily to you. You come here, in this world, from God's place and you will be going back there one day. As long as you are here, you will come in contact with different kinds of people. Behave appropriately, never forgetting the fact, that, you will be taking back all your good deeds.

We are born in this world, to suffer for our previous bad deeds and create good deeds for our next life. If you always keep this fact in mind, you will automatically become detached from this world.

Q9. Is this world a happy place or is it filled with sadness?
A9. In the olden days, when the king died, the people would first make the son, the new king, and only then burn the old king's body. At such a time, there was sadness and happiness. If you call this world a happy place, then there have been incidences which have made you sad, and if you call this world a sad world, things have gone your way and made you happy. So, the world is neither a sad place, nor a happy place. It is what you make of it.

Q10. Is it possible to remain happy, at all times?
A10. Its Possible! Without spending any money or efforts. All you have to do is, not think of your future, remove all useless thoughts of the present situation and chant God's name regularly. Reading other saint's biographies and preaching will definitely help you achieve this.

Q11. God made this materialistic world, then why does this world gives us pain, while God makes us happy?
A11. This world gives us pain only to push us towards God.
